We recently had the pleasure of attending a presentation by Alexander Busch, who spent 10 months with the MCG group of iTEAM at UPV. His work focused on power consumption modeling for Wi-Fi access points, a highly relevant topic as we move toward greener and more energy-efficient wireless networks. Alexander developed a complete measurement, analysis, and modeling framework that combined:
- Controlled traffic generation via iperf.
- Packet capture in IEEE 802.11 monitor mode.
- Accurate power consumption measuremenits using professional-grade instrumentation.
He aligned and synchronized these data sources, extracted relevant features, and applied machine learning techniques (including gradient boosting and explainable AI using SHAP values) to model Wi-Fi AP power consumption with high accuracy.
It was a real pleasure having Alexander. We’re proud of his work and excited to see where his career will take him next.
